How many treatments will I need?

This varies depending on the severity of your symptoms, responsiveness to our treatments, and more.
In general, after clients receive about 20 Direct Neurofeedback sessions, they experience significant long term reduction in their stress and anxiety symptoms.
After that time, some clients choose to receive occasional treatments to optimally support themselves during stressful periods.
And for those clients who are not satisfied with symptom reduction but instead want to maximize their wellbeing, we do often see further benefits beyond 20 treatments.

After we have completed an initial assessment with you, and have seen your response to the first 5 treatments, we will have a more accurate estimate of how many treatment sessions you will require.

How frequently should I come in for treatments?

Reptition of treatments is needed for the brain to change. The more times the new calm and relaxed state is experienced, the stronger the brain remembers this and can access it when needed.
“Neurons that fire together wire together” is one of the key principles of brain change science.
Clients usually benefit from receiving 1 to 2 treatments per week for their first 10 neurofeedback treatments. Afterwards clients are recommended to attend either weekly or biweekly, depending on how they are responding to treatments.
Recomendations for your optimal treatment frequency will be better known after your first 5 treatments.

Is Neurofeedback safe?

Neurofeedback has been researched for over 60 years. Its effects on changing brainwaves were first scientifically documented in 1958.
It has been extensively studied for conditions such as ADHD, Concussions (aka Mild Traumatic Brain Injury), Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and more.

Is Direct Neurofeedback safe? How is it different from shock therapy or ECT?

The amount of energy that comes from Direct Neurofeedback is 0.15 Volts every 1/100th of a second. This is equivalent to the energy from 1/10th of an AA battery.
Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) uses anywhere from 225 to 450 Volts for up to 8 consecutive seconds at a time.
So compared to Direct Neurofeedback, ECT gives out 150,000 to 300,000 times the energy.
In our modern lives, we are bombarded by invisible electromagnetic fields (EMF) from cell phones, cell towers, wifi, bluetooth and more. Compared to our typical daily exposures, the amount of EMF that we are exposed to from a treatment session is a drop in the bucket.
Direct Neurofeedback works via the unique information that it sends to the brain, not the amount of energy or voltage that it carries. You do not feel the signal going to your brain, but will feel the positive effects.
